Amanda Knox Interview Airs Tuesday, May 7th at 10:30 PM ET on CNN

Amanda Knox: The Unanswered Questions”
90-minute interview, airs Tuesday, May 7th at 10:30 pm and 1am ET on CNN.

In a wide-ranging interview with multiple new developments, Amanda Knox sits down with CNN’s Chris Cuomo to answer tough questions about the case against her and retrial, theories of Italian police and prosecutors, ongoing emotional distress and what she says is the need to protect herself.  Knox defends her behavior immediately following the crime, which many have pointed to as the reason for their suspicions, and details her continuing efforts to try to understand and reach out to the family of Meredith Kercher.

The 90 minute CNN broadcast “Amanda Knox: The Unanswered Questions,” a special interview with Chris Cuomo, airs Tuesday, May 7th at 10pm ET and re-airs at 1am ET on CNN.

“I find it incredible that despite an absolute lack of evidence that connects me to this murder, I am still being judged based upon unrealistic and unreasonable expectations about how a young woman would react to a horrible situation. No one knows how they would react to a horrible situation until it happens to them.” Knox says. “I have cried. I have been angry. I have been scared. And these were all things… that I have shown, that have come out of me.”

Italian prosecutor and police theories that she was involved in a sex game gone horribly wrong are “absurd,” according to Knox. “No one has ever claimed that I was ever taking part in deviant sexual activity.  None of my roommates, none of my friends, none of the people who knew me there. This is simply coming out of the prosecution.”  Knox adds, “I was not strapping on leather and bearing a whip.  I have never done that. I have never taken part in an orgy. Ever.” Knox also discusses the drug use police claim fueled her alleged crime.

Knox tells Cuomo she is “shocked” there will be a retrial, because “there’s no evidence against me. There is nothing that links me to this murder. I am not present at the crime scene. I am just not.” However, Knox says she is considering whether she will return to face Italian justice even though, she says, “I’m afraid to go back there.” “In Italy,” Knox tells Cuomo, “people think it’s arrogant of me to sit here in the United States, and have a book come out, and to defend myself.” She continues, “First of all, I find that incredibly unfair because I have the right to defend myself. And no one can ask me to just shut up because it’s convenient. But at the same time, I want to prove to them that I care about what’s going on.” Knox also discusses the Kercher family’s feelings about her and why their Italian lawyer helped press for a retrial.

Knox opens up about the psychological and emotional toll she continues to pay after five years under suspicion, four of those spent behind bars. Describing a panic attack she had this past weekend, Knox reveals, “I sit in my hotel room and cry so loud the security calls the room because the person next door has heard me crying. It’s really hard for me to talk to people about it. It’s like as soon as I allow myself to cry, I can’t stop.”

During the interview, Cuomo notes that Knox’s hands look like they have injuries, and she admits she is undergoing intense self-defense training. “I’ve received death threats since I’ve been home,” Knox tells Cuomo. “And I don’t ever want to be caught in a situation that Meredith was caught in where someone is able to overpower me because I just don’t know what to do.” Knox adds, “There are not normal people who are fixated on me. And I don’t know what they’re capable of. I don’t.”

The Amanda Knox story did very well for ABC and broadcast, but will it ring true for CNN and Chris Cuomo?
Truthfully, I have very little interest in Knox or her story and I really am starting to dislike Cuomo.
There's just something about him.
There is a definite disconnect with the viewer, and that's not good.
It seems to me any new anchor, whether its Chris Cuomo or Jake Tapper, MUST develop a report with the audience BEFORE he's set free to do a one on one, with anyone.
If we don't care about the subject matter, we will care even less if the interviewer has not developed a relationship with his/her audience, and Chris Cuomo has yet to that with his CNN viewers.

It's definitely an interviewer problem. I didn't like his style when he started at CNN and I still don't like it. If it's not Anderson or Wolf, why not have a proven CNN veteran like Tuchmann do an interview like that? He is much more sensitive and likable than Chris and has a connection with the audience.

Horrible interviewer....really disappointed...CNN does better than that....this was shocking. Cuomo appeared to be doing his first interview, the way he sat made it difficult to view the interview is comparable to a bored high school student. His questions were abrupt and seemed to be chaotic, not the professional interview one does reguarding a crime..I embarrassingly feel sorry for him...he ruined the story because he did the interview!

Last night, I was deeply embarrassed, for all of us, by Chris Cuomo during this interview. He appeared sincerely enthusiastic, but intellectually clumsy. Conversely, I was impressed at how polite Amanda Knox was in handling Mr. Cuomo's rudeness. It is my ardent hope that CNN management will take a hard look at Mr. Cuomo's performance: he is not a good candidate for prime time news. By deportment, he seems better suited for a slot at Fox News.

I said this before and others have
relayed this same opinion, and it is just that, an opinion.
Chris Cuomo, got his job because of his father's background.
He has proven to be a clumsey ill suited interviewer.
He is either too agressive, or blatantly untalented and unskilled or all three.
At ABC he was in the studio most of the time.
He has ZERO street smarts so all we can conclude is, he really isn't all that capable and Zucker pulled him because of his name, thinking he had a following.
Surprise!

Chris Cuomo reminds me of Rick Sanchez. They both seem very nice, but they come across as goofy know-it-alls.

Does anybody know where I can find a video online of the entire interview? The listing on my cable guide was wrong so I only recorded the first 30 minutes. Would LOVE to see the rest. email me if you can help: abledanger11@gmail.com

I too, noticed that the title segments did not go with what Anderson Cooper was speaking about.
This has happened before.
Someone will speak for the longest time and you've NO idea who they are and the graphics are not up to date, so three minutes later you find out from looking at another channel, who that person was who was speaking on CNN.
This is complete incompetence.
How can CNN deliver 'breaking news'
and deliver it coherently and then not know what's breaking??
I would think this would all be part of journalism 101, but then I didn't study journalism so who am I to criticize what they do in the control room?

Rick Sanchez was just incompetent.
Chris Cuomo is incompetent and arrogant as well.
Zucker has to tell him point blank, 'lose the attitude.'

@anonymous 12:01, not sure anyone will know what you're talking about since the mention of chyrons is on our sister blog ATA and you're commenting on a totally unrelated post at ATC. But whatever, thanks for agreeing.

It looks like there is an angreement that Chris comes across as too aggressive, antagonistic and that that can seem a bit rude.

That might be okay with someone like Amanda Knox who has become a media professional over the years but hearing him talk to non-media people is pretty painful. I hope they never let him loose on traumatized victims or their families and friends. The contrast to the way Anderson handle these type of interviews is shocking.

I wonder if they do constructive criticism at CNN? Probably not. It looks almost as if Chris is Zucker's pet project and he wants to make him happen.

Even though I'm not particularly interested in Amanda Knox, America is.
According to USA Today her new book about what really happened in Italy has hit the best sellers list
and went straight to the top.
I can't imagine why she'd even entertain the idea of ever setting foot in Italy again, but wonders never cease.
