It pains me to say this but I can no longer support CNN. Watching how CNN talent behaved during the testimony of Rachel Jeantel spoke volumes about CNN and the Jeff Zucker era of the network. First, he announces the return of Crossfire. Next, he decides CNN does not need a journalistic soul and the anchors seem to have developed this Crossfire mentality that Jon Stewart schooled them on. It's not journalism and it serves no purpose. We won't get better journalism if we don't demand it. CNN is not suppose to be FOX or MSNBC but it seems like Jeff Zucker wants them to be. So here comes the talking heads which means zero journalism. Can't wait for Al Jazeera and Fusion.

Mia Farrow tweeted this week that CNN can no longer call itself a news channel for their failure to carry the Texas abortion debate.

Okay. What is going on ? Don Lemon is now
anchoring out of NYC and he will be on Monday
at 7 PM. No Out Front that day ?

Yeah, I saw that ad for Don Lemon special too! What's up with that? Woo-hoooo!! I hope they are dumping that show. That burnette is like a little girl.

CNN has some of the worst weekend shows. Too much crime and talking heads. The suits fail to see that TV is a visual medium.

So how about storing news stories from CNN & CNN I and CNN dot com. Just invest in a storage data system that can play story after story. It can even be one of the Strombo interviews in the mix.

All you do it store it in servers and crate a playlist of dozens of news stories. Develop a media player format. You don't need anchors or anyone to set things up. You just load the stories and do like ESPN. You have now playing, what's coming up next with the timeline bar at the bottom of the screen with time elapsed and time remaining. Back in the day Current TV used this technology well. You could actually go to the website and find out what time a particular story would be airing.. The website and the TV actually synced up. I'm not sure that anyone has figured out how to advance the ball when it comes to cable news and they are doing so at their own peril. The internet keeps investing in more and more content and cable news keeps going with talking heads. Who wants to watch; 4 talking heads argue. That means that CNN is cheating me on content. So I'm paying for news content and not getting it. Guess what I can go to the internet and get news with tons of video and not and not a tired old formula that is like watching radio on tV.

It's not like CNN has a shortage of content. They just don't know how to make themselves a news content provider. Content is king and that is the way to bring in new viewers. You have to offer stuff they want. Video, story-telling, interviews. the arts and music. Why couldn't CNN broadcast Nik Wallenda live. CNN should be doing more live events.

In the upcoming week, we will see the ratings for June 2013 for cable news. No surprise, 360 at 8 & 10 PM will be CNN's highest rated shows but CNN had better start paying close attention to Out Front and PMT. Both shows are hurting CNN. TSR and Leas are underperforming as well. The jury is still out on New Day with so little data. Prediction : before this year is over CNN will be faced with what to do about PMT and Out Front. It is very possible their demos could be below 100,000. These are crucial hours for any network. These shows are a part of CNN prime time. So far neither is hurting 360 but for how long.
CNN can't be to happy about TSR and Lead either. Sure when there is big or breaking news CNN tops MSNBC but daily CNN programming and content is horrible. Crossfire will make things worse. Most people can not believe that CNN was dumb enough to hire Newt Gingrich. Left vs right is not going to work and that means look for CNN to collapse.

360 is the only thing CNN has going for it. Maybe
TJ Holmes will return to CNN. Him showing up on
HLN is interesting. I miss TJ & Betty.

I would like to see Don Lemon go to HLN. I personally just don't care for him. I am not sure about Strombo yet, but I would like to see him in a different time slot so I can see him more often. He definitely is better than Piers Morgan. The American audience does not relate to him.

I woke up early this morning to catch New Day. Don't mean to sound harsh but this is nowhere near as good as CBS This Morning. Sorry but I don't think that Morning Joe has anything to worry about either.
IMHO MJ is also better than New Day. We see how New Day does for the month of July 2013 up against Morning Joe. Someone at MSNBC got smart and added more news to MJ.

CNN has also been running commercials for Boston Finest set to air on Friday at 7. Maybe Erin Burnett will soon be going on maternity leave.

Why CNN does not have Stoumboulopoulos on at a better time is a mystery. 11 o'clock on Friday is not the way to find an audience for a show geared toward 18-49 year olds.

Don't even get me started about Crossfire. CNN is officially out of ideals.

Confusion. CNN is suppose to have a Don Lemon special on at 7 PM the regular time for Out Front but they are running a crawl touting the GW Bush interview as an Out Front exclusive. Also, New Day had a confusing graphic with both TSR & Out Front but said the time was 5 PM. Good grief. Can CNN do anything right these days.

Anonymous said...

Anon 10:00am, I was confused by that too. So, is outfront on at a different time tonight? Kate said it would be on TSR - why if they say it is an Outftront exclusive. And how in the world is it an Erin Burnett exclusive when she isn't even involved in the interview. Robin Curnow interviewed the Bushes. Wtf is going on? And what's with putting a reality show (boston finest) on at 7pm even if it is on Friday - that should be prime live new time. With Velshi and Soledad going to AJAM, i guess I'll start watching them for real news.

i saw on the ticker there was an erin burnett exclusive interview with bush. however it was robyn curnow who did interview and they showed it on blitzer show. huh?

"360 is the only thing CNN has going for it."
Well if that's true, AC better start showing more enthusiasm and interest in the content of his show because, as predicted, Megyn Kelly from Fox News, is coming to Primetime and my guess is she will "eat him alive."
I predicted Fox would use her and they are and I've seen her in action and she cares, which is something AC doesn't seem to show too often, and she is an 'exceptional talent,' just a quote from Roger Ailes.
I agree. CNN has NO FEMALE anchor that comes close to Megyn Kelly's smarts, and they've not prepared for her arrival in prime.
CNN is going down.

With the promotion of Megan Kelly, its pretty sad to say that Fox knows how to diversify its evening lineup better than CNN. Kelly and Van Sustern are two very smart, talented, quick-witted, strong women and what does CNN have at night? What, Burnett? Puh-leeze! She never listens to her guests, is always shilling some dumb talking point, and can't hold her own when guests push back. Oh, but I'm told she's hot. Oh, well, by all means stick her in primetime then. Who cares if the only thing between her ears is the toxic hot air that Wall Street pumps in her?
