TVN has a fascinating article on the age of cable news viewers. Surprisingly, CNN has the younger audience but CNN will lose any advantage they have by going with pundits. FOX & MSNBC are aging because you won't get younger viewers with talking heads. Content is what younger viewers want. CNN is missing a bold opportunity to get demo victories.
How does this work ? Is CNN trying to have reporters strategically in place in the most important cities who can also travel to nearby states and cities in the same region. Perhaps CNN is beefing up it's team or reporters. However, it would be nice to them hire some recent journalism grads to get some fresh ideas.
IMHO CNN still should launch a news show aimed at females. Go with female journalists of all ethnic backgrounds who are highlighting the biggest news tories, interesting topics and interviews with zero politics because men and women are different. There is a huge market for fashion, food, shopping, home decoration, etc. CNN is missing out on viewers and huge ad dollars. For example, the royal baby is a pretty big baby. What is the average baby weight ? What is the latest baby trends. Most popular names, etc. How much maternity leave does working moms get ? Child care cost , the money you will spend for the 1st year.
Its a lame stereotype to think you can lure women with fashion and shopping.
I'm so over royal baby coverage. Do some news that maters CNN.
Omg, I am totally with you @11:16am!! I have overdosed on royal baby - I'm done. Sick of it actually. Why not talk about the piece in NY Times about banks manipulating aluminum prices or the attacks at Abu Gharib prison. Or, how about doing something meaningful on Obamacare implementation? Anything to end the baby talk!?!?!
Jeff Zucker is about to destroy CNN. He is talking about replacing the 360 repeat at 10 PM. Like some other show on CNN could get the same ratings. That is why MSNBC will eventually end up way ahead of CNN. If you take a good look at the ratings for New Day and The Lead, they are not much of an improvement for CNN. Toss out the ratings The Lead got during the Zimmerman trial and the numbers are not that good. For goodness skaes,Zucker thinks Newt Gingrich is still relevant. On what planet.
Judging from the ratings, viewers are tired of the royal baby but CNN does not know when to stop.
According to today's NYT Op Ed page, the Editorial Board of the Times has called for Anthony Weiner's resignation as far as running for Mayoral candidate in NYC.
He has continued to disgrace himself and is degrading the public trust.
I agree, and his lewd behavior continues even in the limelite.
What sort of Mayor can this self absorbed man make?
He is pure sleeze and Ms. Abedin, is no better, "standing by her man," no matter what. Her own ambition it seems, to be Mrs. Mayor, far out ways the public trust.
You can over look so much and then it becomes the public's right to know, if your intention is to be a public figure.
Anthony Weiner needs MORE therapy, and not on the public dime.
CNN please develop a smart political team. I just urned to Morning Joe. CNN would be better served trying to lure the Morning Joe team for a smart political show. CNN still has the worst political team on television. Shows like Morning Joe, Daily Show and Colbert have changed political coverage on TV. At least hire the likes of Mo Rocca and Brett Erlich. Maybe it's a generational thing but I really don't get the left vs right silliness. CNN is in big trouble.
You'll have to admit that CNN is ignoring too much
news in favor of royal baby coverage that is the same
old talk over and over again According to TV by the
Numbers, New Day failed. They averaged a miserable
277,000/116,000. Another CNN collapse is on the
way. When you are that low out of the starting blocks,
it's only a matter of time before the dayside ratings
take a hit and that affects prime time eventually.
According to TVN the birth of the royal baby gave cable news only a tepid spike for a short period and broadcast was even lower.
I don't know what the Jeff Zuckers of this digital age expected.
Diana gave birth 31 years ago when News was slower and the public was wowed more easily.
After an event like 9/11 and Sandy Hook, the birth of any child, royal or otherwise, is not news.
It is a passing event and breaking News has to be "really breaking" in order to get and KEEP our attention.
In the Digital Age , CNN is not suited for multiple platforms because it uses outdated formulas. Too little content, too much talking heads that no one cares to hear from. Just show the video with Will , Kate & baby with some sound of the event and leave it at that. What's up with all of the Diana talk and mindless commentary. Did 360 need to spend 30 minutes on this at the expense of other stories. MSNBC is killing CNN with content. CNN keeps investing in talking heads in the Digital Age. Sure someone will watch CNN on mobile for pundits. They want to be able to get news stores and newsmakers and not political ideology. That's the Huffington Pott, Drudge crowd that you ignore on mobile and social media. Those annoying babyboomers are the reason why even Reddit is taking a stand against the political bickering.Reddit is burying political and racist content because there is starring to be community push back.
How bad is CNN ? Uranium has been found in an airport in Florida. No word on CNN. Way behind and outdated. Stop getting your content from blogs. track with news in real time.
Jeff Zucker destroyed NBC so badly that the only job
that he could get was EP for Katie Couric. He made
bad decisions that are still causing problems for NBC.
History will repeat itself and he will mess up CNN.
Name 1 improvement he his made for CNN. As we all
know, CNN is terrible and becoming worse.
Ouch. Check out the ratings for CNN on Wednesday. According to TVN, New Day averaged a little over 200 thousand in viewers with only 75k in the demo. A 4th place finish. The lowest ratings so far.
Why on earth would anybody let Donny Deutsch and Star Jones fill in for Piers Morgan? They are awful. I have not been able to see Strombo yet. Why not have him fill in one night.
Zucker was flying high when big news stories and trial dramas bumped up CNN's ratings but look how quickly they fall back to earth. Poor CNN. I don't think Zucker is doing a good job - he got some lucky breaks with a few big news stories.
While I do not often agree with the NYPost's Op Ed page, today for once I was in total agreement.
Anthony Weiner is not fit to be Mayor. Clearly there is something wrong with him, mentally and we cannot afford to have an inempt Mayor presiding over the most important city in our country and one of the most important in the world. He is not capable.
And the Post went on to point out that both HE AND HIS WIFE HUMA, are in collusion, so that they both can assume power as Mr. and Mrs. Mayor...I agree again.
She knew of his lewd behavior and still supported and supports his effforts. The Post no longer feels that she is an innocent by stander, the jilted wife of a former Congressmen who spent his time in Congress not doing the work of the people but sending outrageous explicit sexual photos of himself to women he did not know. This behavior continued even after he RESIGNED!
After 9/11 we NEED A COMPETENT PERSON, in charge of this city and it it NOT Anthony Weiner.
CNN management still does not get that the pundits make CNN unwatchable. Do we really need left vs right when talking about Anthony Weiner. It's not the 90's. Guess who was on New Day on Wednesday. Jon
Avalon and Hoover. You can see when CNN goes heavy on pundits the rating drop significantly. This has bee going on for 2 years now and CNN has learned nothing from past mistakes.
CNN is never going to recover from the crossfire
mentality. Next week the ratings for July 2013 will be released. They will show that CNN got a boost from the Zimmerman trial & verdict. However, the remainder of the year will show a huge ratings dive for CNN. Pundits are not helping CNN. From August- December 2013,CNN will be in a downward spiral. Not focusing on content is going to be costly and too damaging. News content matters more than ideological political camps. CNN will go into 2014 in bigger trouble than before suffering huge ratings slides for bad management decisions.
@11:51pm - you realize this blog is all things CNN, right? One reason I like this blog is because it is not filled with political tirades like all the other cable news sites (mediaite, tvnewser, icn, etc...). So, please, sober up, and either talk about CNN or take your political opinions to Mediaite.
Jeff Zucker lets right wing media run CNN and that is why the ratings sink. CNN is too connected to the tea party and conservatives. CNN making a hard turn to the right is going to send them right over the cliff. Viewers don't turn to CNN to get Fox News, Beck, Breitbart and other right wing media craziness. CNN keeps dumbing down the news. Dumb and dumber.
Bill Maher had a very good show on CNN's cousin station, HBO.
One of his guests was none other than the infamous Eliot Spitzer, who looked comfortable and laughed out loud at many of Bill's off color jokes, especially those about Anthony Weiner's weiner.
When asked directly about Weiner's escapades, Eliot took the high road, as expected, and said "It is for the voters to decide."
But he did give the NYT a plug by pointing out that several of NYC print editions, most recently The Wall Street Journal, called for Weiner's resignation from the Mayorial race.
One panelist even suggested that Weiner was a pervert.
And as one voter pointed out most recently, if Anthony Weiner is elected, HE will be the head of the NYC school system. "No parent wants a "pervert" playing any role where children are involved.'
Couldn't agree more.
Kentucky Senator, and Republican, Rand Paul is an idiot. Quote: "He doesn't mind spending money and spying on terrorists, but not all Americans."
Well idiot, "How do you know they are terrorists if you don't spy on them???"
I never thought I would come to the defense of my former Governor Chris Christie, but since I've moved from the lovely Garden State, I'm liking him more and more.
I totally agree with Chrisie's stance against the stupidity in his own party, like Rand Paul or is it Paul Rand, who is speaking for how many people in the state of Kentucky, two?
Yes, Chris is right again, on the issue of continued surveillance techniques of the NSA, and the mere fact that he is willing to stand up to people in his own party and step on them, makes him not only human, but likeable and as a former public servant, we need leadership at the helm, and Christie looks like a leader I can live with, even if did take swipes at fellow public servants like myself, in NJ.
And might I remind the brainless twit, Senator Rand, NJ has more than two people living in it.
According to Huffpost, Anthony Weiner has dropped to 4th place and "Carlos Danger" is really in danger in the run for NYC Mayor.
We can only hope so.
I for one, can not stand to look at this man's face. His bravado is really getting annoying.
How stupid does he think the voters of NYC are?
Apparently very....especially the women voters who he has demeaned and insulted.
He told one female reporter it was not up to her and it didn't matter what she thought.
But a Staten Island teacher told him off in last weeks NYPost and his reply was: "So I guess this means you wouldn't be voting for me."
Her reply: "No, and I wouldn't shake your hand either. No telling where it has been."
Now that's a smart teacher and let's hope Staten Island, one of the 5 boroughs of NYC, will stand together and say No to this "pervert."
@10:30pm: Typical Northeasterner, mock the people living in "flyover" country as if your preening arrogance is persuasive to your argument. Rand Paul is an idiot but the Northeast sure has their share, Mr. Carlos Danger. Mitch McConnell, the other Senator in KY agrees with Chris Christie. So, if a pol agrees with you, then are the people he represents now legitimate? I didn't think someone criticizing Rand Paul could be a bigger moron than the man himself, but you proved me wrong.
