Weed: Dr. Sanjay Gupta Reports

Weed:  Dr. Sanjay Gupta Reports

Premieres on CNN Sunday, August 11 at 8 pm ET

Once considered a more underground activity, marijuana has become increasingly popular over the years, resulting in legalization to grow, sell and smoke it in states like Colorado and Washington.  Cannabis has become one of the most controversial topics in America, but just decades ago it was a legitimate medication on U.S. formulary.  No matter the circumstance, the debate over marijuana still exists and one question remains the same.  Is marijuana bad for you or, could it actually be good for you?

In “Weed” - a one hour documentary premiering on Sunday, August 11th at 8 pm ET - CNN’s chief medical correspondent Dr. Sanjay Gupta spends nearly a year traveling the globe to shed light on the debate.

While it is part of a lifestyle for some, it is a lifeline for others including five-year-old Charlotte Figi.  Charlotte suffers from a rare condition called Dravet’s syndrome, making her prone to up to 300 seizures per week.  Like many people who use marijuana for medicinal purposes, parents Paige and Matt Figi tried every other option before resorting to this type of prescription.  Sanjay follows their journey.

Sanjay takes you to Colorado where weed dispensaries and pot cafes have become the norm.  Dealers, doctors, users – Gupta meets with various people, like the Figis, offering a raw insight to what’s been dubbed “The Green Rush.”  He also talks to experts about whether marijuana can be addictive—and whether it can contribute to long-term damage in the brain.

Sanjay’s final stops are in Tel Aviv and Jerusalem where he meets with some of the pioneers behind marijuana study, offering access to decades of innovative and cutting-edge research.

Weed:  Sanjay Gupta Reports will replay Sunday, August 11th at 11:00 pm ET and Monday, August 12th at 2:00 am ET.

Well that sure is blunt.

I'm confused about this Benghazi special. I read online that it is an Erin Burnett special - the same one that was supposed to air a month ago. Yet, all the commercials on CNN advertise a CNN special investigation at 10pm and its not a Burnett special. All the recent reporting that's been done was by Arwa Damon and Drew Griffin so what does that have to do with Burnett? The ticker says Burnett will have a 7pm special on Benghazi but TVNewser says it will be on at 10pm? What the heck is going on?

This should be running on CNN instead of Benghazi.
CNN got the Boston bombing and SCOTUS heath care ruling wrong but we are suppose to believe the network knows the truth about Benghazi. Really ? Weed and craft beer are booming. CNN airing this on the weekend is a big mistake. Look at the ratings for cable news. There are signs that viewers are tiring of politicizing the news. Cable news is heading in the direction of the music industry, movies and newspapers. Wake up. Original docs like Weed are better choices. Wonder what CNN will get wrong with Benghazi.

CNN International ran a 'Return to Benghazi' Special by Arwa Damon at the end of last month.

I suspect CNN Domestic has taken Arwa's material, and had it fronted by Erin to boost her profile.

@8:44am
If you are right, that is a really crappy way for CNN to treat their real journalists. Erin is an empty suit and its a travesty she gets credit for this. I read about this Benghazi thing on Mediaite and all she could talk about was herself. As if because she happened to be on the air when the story broke makes her an expert. And Benghazi isn't in Mali so what is she talking about???

Where's the coverage on the 3 black teens attacking the white teen on the schoolbus in Florida?

Sanjay Gupta was on the SIT ROOM, the other day and he told Wolf that he and other MD's had misrepresented the need for medical marijuana and medically speaking there was a place for it.
Gupta went on to say that it was unnecessary to go outside of the US
to seek help if you were in dire pain, but he was still undecided about its use and effectiveness for leisure activities.
In other words, he really hasn't changed his view, at all.

I like Hillary Clinton and I have nothing against her husband, our former President.
But do we really need a mini-series
about her life? Is it over and no one told us?
She was a great NYState Senator and inspite of Benghazi, a very good Secretary of State who seemed tireless. But do we really need a rehash of what happened while she and Bill were in the White House and why Now?
If the GOP complains about this, they have good reason. We know her story backwards and forwards and we also know about Bill.
What's up with this anyway?
Oh and Diane Lane has been chosen to play her, according to the latest in gossip...
Did Diane Lane donate really big time for Bill and Hillary??
Barbra Striesand donated even more.
Why not have her play Hillary?
Ridiculous, for Fox or NBC to even consider this NOW.

From TVN: "Clearly weed fans are a loyal bunch." This is a direct quote from the Gupta Special which had very good ratings, for CNN.
But I do differ with TVN's final analysis as to why this show attracted so much attention.
It wasn't only the content, but the person who was doing the reporting who has over time, developed his own audience reporte and credibility with the viewers.
We know when we watch Dr.Sanjay that he will give us an in depth and well researched report on the subject. After all, HE IS A BRAIN SURGEON, and in todays TV world, when Housewives are able to deliver 3 million viewers being blonde, dumb, and catty, a brain surgeon should be able to deliver at least a million and half satisfied customers.

Sanjay Gupta was a panelist on Piers Morgan and it seems that CNN will be repeating Sanjay's very suggessful "Weed" documentary this Friday at 10PM.
I will be watching and hopefully those that missed it the first time
around will, join me.
Maybe Sanjay should look into doing something for "60 Minutes." He's very capable and they need someone with a medical background to break through the red tape, especially with Obamacare coming into play full throttle in 014.
