Ouch. Thursday was a really bad day for CNN. You have to wonder if AJAM is starting to affect CNN. You can turn to AJAM and get some news. It may not be big numbers but if it is as little as 50 viewers at some hours that is not good for CNN, being CNN is behind it's cable competitors. CNN can't afford to lose viewers,

CNN is in some rough waters right now. Someone at the network needs to figure out what is turning off viewers. My guess would be too much talk too little video, sound and constructive conversations. The delivery and presentation on CNN is just awful. The pundits are destroying CNN and the content and story selection is just as bad. The network is making their talent look bad. CNN is a train wreck.. Viewers are not just going to watch people giving their opinions on this and that. Talk to viewers and do some news. I agree with others who have said that CNN's graphics need a makeover. The on air product that CNN produces is not good at all.

Just this week CNN announced a partnership with Tom Hanks, so that means CNN will give us more shows like Parts Unknown on the weekends. There is also speculation about the the future of HLN. Some media reports say the it's possible by this time in 2014 HLN will be a completely revamped network focusing on lifestyle and wellness. Doe that mean more crime on CNN, which they have too much of by the way.

I saw those ratings on TVN and thought what happened to CNN. The Lead had only 289,000 viewers. If viewers are turning from CNN earlier in the day, they have nothing to grow on for the primetime lineup. That is a big question : where are those CNN viewers going. ? AJ does not have the wide distribution that the others have so CNN still has a big advantage. However, I have yet to hear anyone say anything bad about the news on AJ. They have resources and content that can't be matched by CNN . It's possible that AJ is becoming an alternative to CNN. America Tonight is the best program in cable news. AJ shows how little news CNN,MSNBC & FNC have been doing.

I find myself watching AJ more and more and I grew up watching CNN. I used to go to CNN 1st. but now it is AJ. It's real news and real reporting. It's going to be hard for CNN to get me back. As far as I am concerned CNN turned on it's viewers.AJ gets it.

I think it is such a shame that CNN does not have better ratings. CNN has so many talented people like Anderson Cooper, Christianne Amanpour, John King, Jake Tapper, Chis Cuomo, Brianna Keiler, and the list goes on and on. MSNBC and Fox do not even have half the talent CNN does. I wish someone would figure out a way to use this talent in a better way.

Thank goodness for Aljazeera. CNN is blaming
a government shutdown on Obamacare. That's a
lie and they know it. There was an election. The
House passed a bill that will not pass the Senate.
Yet CNN is acting like Obama will veto a house
bill. Someone failed government studies. CNN
can;t get the facts right and the ratings prove
this. People are not stupid.

The hottest show on CNN is Parts Unknown. Last week it gave CNN a demo win on Sunday night. I noticed tonight that CNN is airing a PMT repeat at 8. It will be followed by Parts Unknown. Maybe CNN is considering moving PMT to weekends hoping that Parts Unknown can boost his ratings.

Chris Hayes, MSNBC newest entry into the anchor/cable field, was on Bill Maher's show this week.
I never saw him, and I doubt very much if I ever want to see him again.
Hayes proceeded to monopolize the entire discussion from the new and improved Pope, to Congress's ineptness and their inability to get anything done, except criticize Obamacare.
Perhaps Hayes has another side, but I came away thinking this guy is an ego-maniac.
Even Joy Behar, who was on the panel, remained speechless, because she couldn't get a word in edgewise. Chris Hayes gives new meaning to the word "filibustering."

I don't like Chris Hayes either. He is one of those people who think they know everything. Boring.

360 Later has to move beyond the panels and get more guests who are authors, writers, filmmakers. I could see a panel about Face Book and free speech, but mot nights it gets old and boring. Morning Joe is starting a book club. CNN has got to get beyond opinion. It's costing them viewers. Also, 360 at 8 should be finishing way ahead of All In. For some reason it's not. Fix both editions of 360. CNN has got to get back to being informative and a learning experience. News you can trust. I am not sure at this point that CNN can restore it's news image.

I watched a little of AJAM because of the news out of Kenya this weekend. These guys are good. While watching I noticed that AJAM was running a really smart promo. The ad said we are building a network exclusively for you. Smart . Talking to viewers. The shows on AJAM are interesting.. All I have to say is wow. I think AJAM has CNN's attention. This morning I have been flipping between AJAM,CNN & MSNBC. Now that AJAM is in the game, CNN needs to up it's game. What CNN is doing can't continue. The actual news has to be priority # 1 for CNN. CNN can't be FNC or MSNBC. That is not what viewers expect from the CNN brand. AJAm is beating CNN on the Kenyan hostage crisis. IMHO AJAM has the edge. The Kenya story gets bigger if it's true that some Americans might be involved.

Anonymous said...

Who is running CNN ? Right now MSNBC & AJ are showing live video out of Kenya. The gunfire is very audible. The video is compelling and CNN is talking Emmys. Come on CNN.

Anonymous said...

Trust me everyone is aware of AJAM. ABC, NBC
CBS, PBS, CNN, MSNBC & FOX. AJAM will have an
effect on all of them.AJaM has deep pockets. No
one else can match the money they have. They
all have an AJAM problem not just CNN. It is
possible that CNN is losing some of it's viewers
to AJAM. It does not look like they are turning to
FOX or MSNBC. Both have flat ratings. If AJAM is
able to gain an attractive demo as divers as ESPN,
that changes the cable news landscape. It can be
younger, wealthier and highly educated,etc.

What did CNN do ? TV by the Numbers is pointing out that CNN got some of it's worst ratings of the year in 2013. Crossfire is a disaster for CNN. How long will it take for CNN to cancel Crossfire. CNN is in trouble at 4,5,6,7 & 9. Don't know how much longer 360 can hold up with ratings a little lower, Viewers are fleeing from CNN, Management had better get the message like right now. The stage is set for CNN having one of the worst Q4 ratings ever in the network's history. New Day is getting dangerously low as well. No one is fixing the problems ar CNN and that's not a good thing.

Later this week the ratings for September 2013 will
be released. CNN will be # 3 again and falling behind
it's cable news rivals. CNN has zero momentum. Jon
Stewart is right about what is wrong with CNN. It's
nothing like the news. CNN has too much mindless
chatter that makes no sense. CNN sounds crazy. The
network is heading over the cliff. Will the network
have to crash and burn before the suits realize we
have a problem with CNN ? AJAM is new ; it can take
the time to get it right and build the network. CNN
does not have that luxury. Time is running out fast
for CNN.

Did anyone really expect for New Day, The Lead, Legal View and Crossfire to work for CNN ? CNN has issues morning, day and night. The message viewers are sending is we don't like CNN. Their patience has worn thin and CNN has lost their news identity and cred. AJAM is now a news alternative. When it comes to quality journalism CNN can't touch AJAM because CNN decided to dumb down the news. You would think CNN would have learned from Parker Spitzer an Starting Point that the pundits were destroying CNN and they greenlight Crossfire. There is no audience for Crossfire. The 6 o'clock hour is killing CNN. Yet again CNN is it's own worst enemy, Piers Morgan has been sinking for months and CNN has been talking about the 10 spot. CNN is poorly managed and lacks leadership. CNN got lucky with some big breaking news stories but once they botched the reporting the damage was done.

It won't get any easier for CNN. The new TV season kicked off yesterday. Premiere week will likely cause a drop off of viewers with the exception of FNC. We are about to find out how low the ratings will drop for CNN in prime time.

Anonymous said...

Ouch, 318,000 viewers in primetime on CNN. Can you say collapse because here it comes. Those ratings on TVN is a wake up call. MSNBC has found a way to build up Chris Hayes. Just beat CNN by large margins at 5,6, & 7 PM 360 would have to come up with a 300,000 viewer pickup. When you look at the ratings for Saturday as the Kenya mall news was breaking all day long, it's logical to assume that AJAM hurt CNN. The numbers seem to be lower for CNN now with breaking global news. AJAM does not have to take away huge numbers of viewers from CNN just some.

The problem with cable news is that it offers nothing for viewers. You get rants, if I were in charge fantasies from people who sit on their butts and run their mouths and lie, yes lie and no one corrects the lies. Due to mobile devices people have access to real news and they use the legit mobile news all day long so they know cable news is inaccurate. Either they don't know or they don't care. CNN is not connecting with viewers because pundits are not normal people so you are getting people with biased agendas using talking points. CNN is ignoring viewers and the news.

I am a big fan of AJAM at the expense of CNN.
For some strange reason AJAM was the only network to do in depth reporting on Obamacae. The AHA is being rolled out at the state level. AJAM has been pointing out for 2 weeks that it depends upon were you live and they pointed out something that seemed to missed by others in the media. This past week the Nevada governor gave the GOP response to President Obama's Saturday national address on Obamacare. Nevada is a state that is using Obamacare. Just today there is a report out about how much it will cost. Ironically, Texas will benefit greatly. The real news is not in D.C. it's across the United States. I am disappointed with CNN. They still have not caught on that Ted Cruz is a joke.

CNN should try to lure Aisha Tyler away from the
Talk and give her a show on CNN replacing PMT. She is smart, funny and saved the Talk. Don't know if CBS wold let her go. The Talk is catching up to the View.

According to TVN, Anthony Weiner is trying to get a spot on cable news and the sorry fact of the matter is, cable news needs this 'freak' because they are doing so poorly.
MSNBC is a perfect fit and viewers will tune in just to see if Anthony slips.
Hopefully someone at MSNBC has sense enough to say "No, there is something wrong with Weiner. He is an embarrassment and deserves not to be in the public eye."
This is a person who is obsessed with himself....in more ways than one.

Beginning Monday, Early Start will revert back to two hours, starting an hour earlier, 4:00-6:00AM.

Anonymous said...

360 Later has some potential but it needs to add more content. More video montages and topics. Sometimes they waste too much time on a single story. For a 60 minute show you need more content so it does not seem boring. 10 minutes seems like enough for any topic. I realize that it is a work in progress but the pace is a little slow. If it can pick up the pace and be a little bit for hipper and cool, it would be good news for CNNN at 10. Eventually, AC will be up against Last Word and Hannity. 360 could bring in the younger demo.

I saw that crawl on CNN earlier about the 4 AM
start time. It implied that it was just for October,
Guess it is just an experiment. Maybe AJAM is
affecting CNN a lot more than we think.

CNN is unethical and then some. The Huffington Post has a disturbing article about CNN surrounding the controversy involving Newt Gingrich. There is a bout to be a huge backlash against CNN. It's looks like a classic pay to play scheme.

Piers Morgan had Chelsea Clinton on the other nite and although she is appealing, her projection is rather poor. She was big yawn.
When NBC hired her as a commentator, she was less than stellar, as they soon found out.
Piers asked her if she would follow in her parent's footsteps and be as successful as they have become.
If first impressions are any indication, the answer is "No."
She's nice looking, with potential, but if her last name weren't Clinton, she'd just be another person with a good head on her shoulders and no place to turn.
Chelsea in many ways reminded me of Caroline Kennedy.
When Caroline Kennedy ran for the NY Senate seat, the woman couldn't even formulate a sentence.
Shocking as it was, with her priveleged background, all we could do was shake our heads in amazement.
Sometimes, the apples do fall far from the trees, especially if their not feritlized and well maintained.
