Saw the CNN presentation of "Blacfish" and thought it was very interesting, although it was really just clips of what has happened previously at "Sea World"
Orlando, and testimony from former trainers and employees.
It is a shame that OSHA is still so unreliable as a government agency. After "Tilly" killed Dawn, the trainer, the only safety net was putting all trainers behind barriers when Orcas were performing.
What about fines?? Sea World was negligent, but then again so was Dawn, dipping her foot into the water repeatedly to tease a whale in captivity is not the smartest thing to do, as she soon found out.
In conclusion, we all agree that Sea World needs to tighten its safety procedures, but they are a business and animals are treated with little respect because of profit and greed.
And speaking of profit and greed, where was Jack Hanna's testimony?
He was on the BOD at Sea World.
Why wasn't HE grilled by OSHA...even a slap on the wrist is better than nothing.
