Your Views on the News 2/5/14

Here's the latest press release from CNN.  Feel free to discuss Keilar's new assignment or anything else that catches your fancy.

Brianna Keilar Named Senior Political Correspondent

Brianna Keilar has been named CNN’s senior political correspondent, it was announced today by Sam Feist, CNN senior vice president and Washington bureau chief. With her new assignment as senior political correspondent, Keilar will cover important stories on politics and policy and serve as the lead reporter covering Hillary Clinton and the Democratic field.  She begins her new assignment in March.  In addition, Keilar will also serve as the network’s primary fill-in anchor for “The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer” at 5 p.m. ET.
“Brianna has distinguished herself as one of the top political reporters in the field,” said Feist. “She possesses a strong understanding of both the White House and the congressional beat, and we’re thrilled she’ll be taking on this new assignment as the campaign season heats up.”
Keilar, who joined the network in 2006 as general assignment correspondent, has provided comprehensive coverage of both the Obama administration and Congress during her time at CNN.  In 2012, Keilar reported extensively on President Barack Obama’s campaign, the Democratic National Convention, and she contributed to the network’s Emmy Award-winning election night coverage.  She earned the National Press Foundation’s Everett McKinley Dirksen Award for Distinguished Reporting of Congress for her 2008 coverage of the $700 billion bank bailout.

Is Briana the new Kate Bolduan? Remember Briana, if Zucker asks you to do a morning show, say NOOOOOOOOO!

Unfortunately New Day hasn't worked out for CNN. Every few days I see new articles of either ratings struggles or something about Chris Cuomo not liking Kate Bolduan and wants her off the show. Chris Cuomo is better off having his own show. I sometimes get the vibe that he feels that New Day is HIS show.

I think it would be better to have Kate Bolduan return to Washington and get her own one hour program during the day, perhaps Wolf Blitzer's 1PM hour. Chris Cuomo should probably move to primetime immediately replacing Piers Morgan at 9:00PM. He has filled in at that time slot multiple times before when he first started at CNN and it was enjoyable.

As for CNN Mornings, move Morning Express with Robin Meade over to CNN from 6-9AM considering HLN is getting a complete makeover. It honestly seems like the last resort. Morning Express has received positive reviews and has beat New Day in ratings a lot.

Also I think CNN should bring back American Morning and have it on from 9AM to 12, hosted by John Berman and Michaela Periera. It would be 6-9AM Pacific time where Michaela came from hosting a morning show, attracting more viewers.

Easy as that CNN!

Congrats to Briana. I enjoyed Joe Johns as the primary fill in anchor for Wolf Blitzer though. I even liked Suzanne Malveaux from years ago while she lived in Washington. I was hoping that her moving back, she would get that role again.

I've only recently taken to watching MSNBC by default, having given up on CNN entirely.
MSNBC is very partisan, and sometimes it is really annoying.
However, whatever the program is or isn't, it is far superior in both content and commentator.
Whether it's Chris Hayes, Or Rachel Maddow, BOTH really "know their stuff."
I'm not a fan of Hayes, and Rachel could use a little more make-up, she happens to be attractive and VERY SMART, but I actually look forward to their shows.
It has been so long since I've looked forward to watching any news program, that I've forgotten the excitment of thought provoking issues!
Yes, Rachel interviews people.
She can't just sit there and talk to herself, although I do know someone on CNN who finds himself so amusing he's created a small version of himself and speaks to 'him.' But that's whole other story.

TVN is reporting that CNN is dropping CNN Latino.
This is quite strange or maybe it isn't. CNN seems to have failed at everything else so perhaps its failure to establish itself as an Hispanic news network is not surprising.
After all, they don't have any Latino anchors now on regular programming so why would they think that just because they are
CNN, that automatically Hispanics would think of them focusing on their programming Hispanic culture.
CNN has come under attack for lack of diversity to begin with.
Why start now?

Folks this is why Fox News is #1.
The James Carville hire has not gone unnoticed by conservatives or liberals for that matter.
According to TVN, Carville was at CNN for more than twenty years.
Well, yes, CNN has totally lost its reputation so this was an excellent move both for Fox and Carville. They needed a liberal fire marshal and HE needed a network that delivers News...in some format, like it or not.

@11:05PM
The reason why FOX is number one is because there is a huge group of TV viewers in the United States who watch the news. The mass majority of them watch FOX News and happen to be elder and conservative. The rest (smaller majority) are divided between MSNBC, CNN, etc.

The huge group of TV viewers in the United States who don't normally watch the news but tune in when something catastrophic occurs, happen to tune into CNN, which makes it #1. Same with elections.

Yes, CNN does have problems, but a big part of the blame with it's ratings has to do with us being in the digital age. I wouldn't fully put the blame/fame on who is fired or hired.

CNN's new 11AM program hosted by John Berman and Michaela Periera will be called "This Hour" and debuts Monday.

Wolf Blitzer's 1PM Newsroom hour will be retitled to "Wolf", as mentioned in the press release a while ago.

CNN has cancelled AC360-Later. I think The Lead with Jake Tapper should be replayed in the time slot until further notice.

According to TVN Bill O'Reilly is defending Chris Christie and saying that he is actually being targeted by "the left" meaning MSNBC, and that is why they've had a ratings "bump" for the past
couple of say, weeks.
Really...
Here's the reality, Bill.
I'm from NJ, and If Christie lied he's in big trouble, and if he didn't lie, which is highly unlikely, he's in big trouble.
AND, he has lost credibility in his own state.
There is a really good chance that he may not finish out this term and YOU know it, and so does EVERY VIEWER watching Rachel Maddow pick away at all of his contradictions and so far she's done an excellent job.
AND IF SHE didn't have an audience that cared, she wouldn't be winning the ratings war and neither would Lawrence O'Donell.
I think we'll just "follow the money and see where it leads."
( I mean Sandy Storm money.)
How's that??

1:46 - replaying The Lead at 10:00 is a great idea!

The 50th anniversary of the arrival of the Beatles is being lost on the news media of yesteryear and the screaming girls, who were all baby boomers.
What is important to note is how business savvy John Lennon and Paul McCartney were, especially McCartney.
McCartney bought up ALL of Michael Jackson's music before his death....He was and is a British Dolly Parton, and of ALL of the Beatles, he alone seemed to know how to accept fame and make the business of music really his own.
There's a lesson in there some where.
