New World, Old Problems

So as the world greeted news of America's new president-elect, time for reality to sink in: what challenges await President Obama on January 20th? CNN was on live all night, and just hours after the votes were counted, had panels on to discuss. One panel included Michael Ware, who did not seem to mind the ungodly hour!

On Friday, Anderson Cooper spoke with Christiane Amanpour, Jill Dougherty, and Peter Bergen about international issues that will need immediate attention:

(Is that a wedding ring Peter is playing with as Anderson is introducing him?)

Also on Friday, Miles O'Brien took a look at some domestic issues that the General Accounting Office believes are crucial, even if they were not often discussed on the campaign trail:

Where in the World...?

SATURDAY: On the final weekend of the campaign, Suzanne Malveaux was in Henderson, Nevada with the Obama campaign; Dana Bash was in Newport News and Springfield, Virginia with the McCain campaign; Candy Crowley was in Pueblo, Colorado with the Obama campaign; and Ed Henry was in Perkasie, Pennsylvania with the McCain campaign; all four co-hosted Ballot Bowl. Michael Ware was in New York.

SUNDAY: Candy was in Cincinnati with Obama; Dana was in Petersborough, New Hampshire with McCain; they co-hosted the final Ballot Bowl. Jessica Yellin was in Columbus, Ohio with Obama. Late Edition was three hours long; Wolf Blitzer and John King were both still in New York.

MONDAY: Suzanne was in Jacksonville, Florida with Obama; Jessica was in Chicago with Obama; Ed was in Tampa, Florida with McCain; Dana was in Prescott, Arizona with McCain; Gary Tuchman was in Anchorage, Alaska to cover Governor Palin's return to vote and also get reaction to the verdict in the Senator Ted Stevens trial.

TUESDAY: Betty Nguyen and TJ Holmes hosted overnight coverage; Don Lemon, Jessica, and Suzanne were in Chicago with Obama; Ed was in Phoenix with McCain.

WEDNESDAY: John Roberts and Kiran Chetry began American Morning at 3 a.m. ET.

THURSDAY: Ed was in New York; Dana was in Washington; Wolf was in Washington although not on the usual TSR set; John King hosted Larry King Live from Washington.

FRIDAY: Betty was in for Heidi Collins; Suzanne hosted The Situation Room; Anderson Cooper hosted AC360 from Washington; Peter Bergen (above) was in Washington.

I expect most of the regulars who covered the campaign (and racked up enough frequent-flyer miles to have a free trip to the moon!) will be taking next week off for a well-deserved rest!

Enjoy the weekend, everyone!

I have missed AC 360 friday. So, huge thanks for the clip with Peter Bergen, Christiane Amanpour and Jill Dougherty.
