Our congratulations to Christine Romans and husband Ed Tobin also. They are the parents of two boys and expecting baby number 3 in June.

Light and Easy Viewing

Hey everyone. I was going through my old video clips that I have collected over the last few months but had not gotten a chance to use them. Tonight post are just some light moments from CNN.

TJ Holmes and Randi Kaye share a story about a bear rescue.

Don Lemon jokes with TJ Holmes about getting a mortgage.

Larry King was given a square in Los Angles. Larry gives thanks for this honor.

A few months back I posted news of Stephanie Elam's engagement. Stephanie returned after her wedding and Brianna Keilar and Don Lemon talked with Stephanie about her special day (what a beautiful bride by the way).

Melissa Long and TJ Holmes talk Elvis and who does not love TJ as Elvis in a white Elvis suit.

John Roberts sends his co-anchor Happy birthday wishes from Denver. Kiran sure enjoyed her "29th" birthday.

That is it for me this week. Have a great one ~ Sapphire

Fun Clip Thursday

Tonight I thought I would share some great moments from CNN this past week.

Last Friday was Kyra Phillips last day of filling in for Kiran Chetry while Kiran was out on maternity leave. With the rising cost of airline tickets and new luggage charges, master of the prop, Ali Velshi brought out one of Kyra's suitcases to get the point across.

Friday brought us the third installment of the Washington Trio's reports (Zain Verjee, Tom Foreman and Jamie McIntyre). At the end of the piece Zain Verjee joined John and Kyra. What happened next has to be one of the funniest intros I have ever seen. Also the best reaction award goes to John Roberts. This clip is so funny it was Jon Stewart's moment of zen Wednesday night.

John began and ended Friday's American Morning letting the viewers know it was Kyra's last day on American Morning. Only Kyra would add her own flare to the fist bump.

Monday morning was Kiran Chetry's first day back on the job after her two month maternity leave. The end of the show had some cute pictures of Kiran's two beautiful children. Phebe posted the first pics of baby Christopher and he has certainly grown since those pictures were taken

Thursday morning John Roberts learned how freeing not wearing pantyhose is to women. Seems that Kiran, Heidi Collins and Tony Harris have a good laugh.

You know we are living in a dot.com world when people are introduced as a web address. Ali Velshi and Poppy Harlow had a cute moment during Issue #1's Quick Vote segment.

I did check and as of this posting no one has bought that site domain name.

Every afternoon edition of CNN News Room ends with the closing bell on Wall St. Before the closing bell a piece aired on people who spend $15 on a single cup of coffee. Betty Nguyen, Don Lemon and Stephanie Elam discussed the idea out this "expense"

What would a week be hear at ATC with a Daily Show with Jon Stewart clip regarding something that aired on CNN. Jon was covering the coverage of the Midwest floods. Gary Tuchman, Don Lemon and Susan Roesgen all made appearances.

Hope you enjoy these light hearted moments from this past week in CNN. Until next week ~ Sapphire

Comedy Relief

After a very long and intense week with the tragedy in Myanmar (Burma) and the intense elections in North Carolina and Indiana. I thought I would lighten things up a bit.

On Thursday May 1st. Veronica De La Cruz filed a report on slang and at the end Veronica quizzed John Roberts and Kyra Phillips on some computer/text slang. One of the two anchors certainly knows their slang.

Laughs all around on this Wednesday afternoon's News Room. Who doesn't love naked stupidity. Don Lemon, Brianna Keilar and Stephanie Elam sure seemed to get a kick out of the story.

Tonight I leave you with news for all the fans of Larry King. Set your VCR/PVR's. Larry King will be guest appearing on the ABC sitcom "Ugly Betty" next Thursday May 15th. Below is a picture of Larry with Eric Mabius who plays "Daniel Meade". I am super excited to watch this episode.

Courage Under Fire

Earlier this week, Christiane Amanpour received the International Documentary Association (IDA) Courage Under Fire Award. Below are excerpts from an IDA press release:

Christiane Amanpour will receive the International Documentary Association Courage Under Fire Award. The award is reserved for individuals who put themselves in harm’s way in order to bring important stories to the public. Amanpour will be feted during the 2007 IDA Distinguished Achievement Awards Gala Benefit at the Directors Guild of America Theatre in Los Angeles on December 7.

“Our members want to express their admiration for Christiane Amanpour who has consistently brought the world honest and thorough first-hand reports from dangerous places where history was happening,” says IDA President Diane Estelle Vicari. “We appreciate her integrity, her commitment to showing and telling the public the truth, and the exceptional courage that she has shown in the face of personal danger.”

This is only the fourth time that IDA has presented a Courage Under Fire Award in the 25 year history of the organization. The previous three awards went to filmmakers for specific documentaries that put them in harm’s way. It is only the second time that IDA has presented an award to a television journalist. Former CBS-TV news anchor and correspondent Walter Cronkite received an IDA Career Achievement Award in 1992.

“IDA is committed to encouraging filmmakers and journalists to inform the public about the critical issues of our times,” says IDA Executive Director Sandra Ruch. “Christiane Amanpour has brought light to some of the darkest places in the world. We hope that this tribute will inspire other journalists and filmmakers to follow her example.”

Friday night, another new Special Investigations Unit debuted: Iran: Fact & Fiction. This program, anchored by Campbell Brown, examined the relationship between the US and Iran over the last decade.

The program included several reports from Frank Sesno. Along with analysis from Trita Parsi, Joe Klein, David Gergen, and Aneesh Ramen.

The relationship between the two countries has been complicated. Below are a few of the highlights that the program touched on:

  • 1997 – US attempts diplomacy with the new moderate president. These attempts fail as Iran's Supreme Leader has no interest in improving relations.
  • Fall of 2001 - Iran and the US work together in Afghanistan to defeat the Taliban. This included sharing of information and safe passage of supplies. Iran helped to establish the government and was prepared to assist Afghanistan to train the national army.
  • January 2002- Pres. Bush referred to Iran were part of the Axis of Evil.
  • A 2003 Iran sent a non-existent memo through the Swiss to the US that outlined their aims and the US. The memo was never acted upon by the US. A diplomatic opportunity missed?
  • December, 2007 - National Intelligence Estimate (NIE) report released that Iran stopped their nuclear weapons program in 2003.

The program has some excellent reporting by Frank Sesno and doesn't attempt to place blame of the current tension between Iran and the US on any one particular party.
