Selling the Girl Next Door
Amber Lyon Reports for ‘Selling the Girl Next Door’ for Sunday, Jan. 23 at 8:00pm ET & PT
In a year-long investigation, CNN correspondent Amber Lyon reveals the devastating realities of the business of underage sex – speaking to a young teen runaway sold online from a Las Vegas hotel, the men that obsessively seek Internet sex connections, and women long into careers as sex workers who were trafficked as teens or children.
Selling the Girl Next Door debuts Sunday, Jan. 23 at 8:00p.m. ET and PT on CNN/U.S. Selling the Girl Next Door will debut on CNN International on Saturday, Feb. 5 (please check local listings for airtimes).
Along the way, Lyon interviews well-known brothel owner Dennis Hof. Hof’s sex workers describe their own dark pasts and the frightening underworld of underage sex trafficking.
Lyon also goes undercover herself, posting an online ad, and taking calls from solicitors – and Internet pimps – to understand more about how girls are victimized by traffickers.
An interactive map on CNN.com shares Lyon’s coast-to-coast journey – from Maryland, Missouri, Tennessee and Nevada – trailing runaways, finding their families, meeting sex workers, and visiting a “Johns’ school” where convicted solicitors are forced to face the social and criminal consequences of their actions.

Malveaux, who has worked in CNN’s White House unit for nearly a decade, has played a key role as a member of the network’s Best Political Team on Television and as the primary substitute anchor for The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer. During her career, Malveaux has covered three presidents, presidential campaigns, and key stories including the War in Iraq, Hurricane Katrina and the economic crisis.
Since joining the network in 2002, Malveaux has interviewed President Obama and the First Lady; former presidents George W. Bush, George H. W. “Suzanne is a welcome addition to the CNN Newsroom lineup, adding a depth of experience as well as fresh perspective to our daytime coverage,” said Jautz. “We are very pleased to expand Suzanne’s role so that we can showcase her political expertise as well as her broader strengths as a journalist.”
“I’m looking forward to this new chapter, bringing news and stories that impact viewers in and outside the Beltway,” said Malveaux.
CNN Newsroom is the destination for breaking news and international reporting from its state-of-the-art interactive studio. Kyra Phillips has anchored the program since 1999. Ali Velshi and Brooke Baldwin joined CNN Newsroom in 2010.

Parker/ Spitzer
We noticed last night that the little 'live' bug was in the bottom corner of Parker/Spitzer. That's a change that we read more about today, in addition to the speculation that continues to swirl about Kathleen Parker's possible replacement.
The New York Post reported:
Network honcho Ken Jautz announced yesterday during a morning meeting that the show, which had previously been taped, would now be aired live, one insider said.
"He ended the conversation saying, 'That's all I have right now,' " the source said.
As The Post reported yesterday, Parker, a Pulitzer prize-winning columnist, could be dumped any day now due to a lack of chemistry with the disgraced former governor and dismal ratings."[Parker] is being pushed out," an insider said. "But she's putting up a fight because she's been hung out to dry."
Although CNN has considered possible replacements for Parker such as former Fox anchor E.D. Hill and National Review writer Will Cain, this week's switch to live television may be a last ditch effort to keep Parker on board.

ATLANTA CHILD MURDERS – Airs Sunday 2:00AM - 4:00AM
Almost thirty years after the murders of more than 25 black children, teens and young adults, CNN anchor and special correspondent Soledad O’Brien investigates the nearly two-year siege of fear that gripped the city of Atlanta. Although Wayne Williams continues to profess his innocence from behind bars, with his arrest and conviction, he was described as both a “monster” – and the nation’s first Black serial killer. In his first television interview in 10 years, O’Brien had exclusive access to Williams and examines on television and online at www.CNN.com/atlantachildmurders.
RESCUED – HAITI – Airs Sunday 8:00PM - 9:00PM, 11:00PM - 12:00AM
CNN anchor & special correspondent Soledad O’Brien investigates the plight of those left most vulnerable in the wake of Haiti’s devastating 2010 earthquake – Haiti’s children. Told through the eyes of 7-year-old Cendy Jeune and former child slave, teenager Marckenson Oliphi, O’Brien reports on how Haiti’s orphans struggle to overcome crushing poverty and the shame of child slavery. O’Brien interviews missionaries, aid workers, and relatives, who themselves must overcome bureaucracies and a frail earthquake recovery.

Dr Gupta, welcome to... Hollywood?
Sanjay Gupta joins cast of “Contagion”
7:16 am January 7, 2011, by Jennifer Brett
Paging Dr. Gupta! Matt Damon, Jude Law and Laurence Fishburne would like to share some screen time with you!
CNN’s esteemed Dr. Sanjay Gupta has signed on for a cameo role in “Contagion,” the bio thriller that also stars Kate Winslet and Gwyneth Paltrow. Gupta is filming his scene today.
“Contagion,” which snarled traffic in the CDC/Emory area yesterday, continues filming today. We hear the project will be shooting in East Atlanta, and also plans to film some at a residence at the downtown W hotel.
The movie is about a team of doctors that is scrambling to find a cure for a deadly epidemic, so shots of the CDC and the cameo with Dr. Gupta will surely lend some cred. Next week, he is scheduled to return to Haiti to report on the earthquake-ravaged region, a year later.

Catastrophic Failure
We don't often do opinion here at All Things CNN, that's not what we're about. But we're making an exception today because of recent events and a few shocks yet to come.
We were saddened this week to learn of John Roberts departure from CNN. He, like so many others who moved on this past year, could have helped CNN to return to its former glory, if they had been used properly and appreciated more. Do you realize how many fine journalists left CNN in just the past 365 day? It's rather shocking when you see it presented in list form.

We know it's not the viewers job to fix the problem but ultimately you. the CNN viewer, will be the decider (to quote our last President). CNN needs to get its act together and fast. They can't survive another year, both in terms of talent loss and ratings failure, like 2010.
We'll leave you with a classy but subdued Tony Harris as he signed off CNN for the last time.
