Launching in early 2013, the show will be shot on location and examine cultures from around the world through their food and dining and travel rituals. The Emmy award winning Zero Point Zero Production has been working with Anthony Bourdain for over a decade, producing Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations, The Layover, A Cooks Tour, and Decoding Ferran Adria.

“I’m really looking forward to coming over to CNN. I think the world is going to get a whole lot bigger for me,” said Bourdain. “I hope that old fans and new ones will be excited about what’s coming down the road.”
Bourdain has been the host of the award-winning Travel Channel series Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations since 2005. Piers Morgan Tonight News
Huffington Post has a few interesting articles today relating to Piers Morgan tonight. Next week PMT will have a week of guests hosts with Regis Philbin filling in on Tuesday night. Philbin's buddy David Letterman will be the guest.
There's also more trouble for Piers concerning the hacking scandal in the UK. BBC anchor Jeremy Paxman claimed in testimony today that Morgan taught him how to hack into a cell phone. HuffPo reported:
Morgan, who testified before Leveson in December, has long seen his name pop up at the fringes of the ongoing phone hacking scandal. He has vehemently denied ever having hacked a phone or having told anyone to hack a phone, and there has been no hard evidence linking him to the practice.
Still, accusations that hacking was rife during his editorship of the Daily Mirror -- or that he acquired private voicemails through hacking -- have persisted.Paxman -- who has tangled with Morgan about hacking before -- said that, at a lunch in 2002, Morgan first claimed to know the exact details of a conversation between the two (though he said it was quite possible Morgan was "imagining" when he said this), and then described how to hack a phone to him.
Piers' cheeky response on Twitter?

CNN PRESENTS: Selling A Miracle? 8:00pm – 9:00pm & 11:00pm – 12:00am
Program Descriptions:
Voters in America: Vets Wanted?
Multiple deployments interrupt lives, careers, and can lead to health and financial challenges. Featuring narration by former U.S. Army infantryman and motivational speaker JR Martinez and contributions from veteran and veteran’s advocate Paul Rieckhoff, Vets Wanted looks at the unique burdens for families of men and women who have served in Iraq and Afghanistan, and follows the reintegration of members of the Georgia National Guard’s 877th Engineering Company back into civilian life. Deployed to Afghanistan in December 2010, more than half of these veterans faced unemployment when they returned to the U.S. The documentary also examines whether the bipartisan Veterans Jobs Bill passed in November 2011 is of any help as our nation’s heroes make full transitions back to the lives they left to defend America, and offers insights into how veterans’ unemployment may impact their decisions as they head to the polls this November.
CNN PRESENTS: Selling A Miracle?
CNN investigative correspondent Drew Griffin reports from India and the United States on a New Delhi clinic that promises hope for desperate American patients through embryonic stem cell injections, treatment that is outlawed in America. Over 85 patients have paid an average of $25,000 each for treatments for diseases ranging from ALS to spinal cord injuries to genetic disorders.
Voters in America: Who Counts
The second installment in CNN’s Voters in America series continues with an in-depth look at how election law changes enacted in 14 states since 2008 may influence the election. With a focus on the primarily partisan battle lines within the swing state of Florida, Who Counts dissects the arguments for and against new rules that may impact poll access for the elderly, students, and minorities. Proponents of the rules changes argue that tighter restrictions on registration and poll access will prevent fraud; opponents say the new laws are confusing, unevenly written for different counties even within the same state, and intimidating for already disadvantaged populations. Who Counts is narrated by actor Jesse Williams.

A Few Quick Reads About CNN Primetime
There's a lot of Internet buzz about CNN's primetime ratings on Monday (5/14/12) & Tuesday (5/15/12) nights this week. Here are a few write ups:
Mediaite:
On Monday night, HLN’s Nancy Grace nearly doubled CNN’s Anderson Cooper‘s viewers in the demo during the 8 p.m. slot. She also surpassed him in total viewers. Grace drew in HLN’s highest ratings of the night, while Cooper fared better during the 10 p.m. hour.
Note: Cooper broadcast live from the Turkey/Syria border on Monday night and his overnight ratings (demo) were 67 for 8PM and 125 for 10PM.
DEADLINE/HOLLYWOOD:
CNN fell to a 15 year primetime low last night (Tuesday) in a key demo and limboed down to its second worse weekday primetime since March 1997. A new episode of Piers Morgan Tonight at 9 PM drew in only 39,000 viewers in the Adult 25-54. The news network itself averaged just 308,000 viewers in primetime with Morgan’s show and Anderson Cooper’s AC360 leading at 8 PM and again at 10 PM. CNN had 73,000 viewers in the Adult 25-54 during Tuesday’s primetime. This comes on the heels of April’s bad news when the network had its lowest-rated month in over a decade. The forensics on the 9 PM slot’s low Adult 25-54 numbers are revealing. The last time a CNN show had that kind of demo numbers in that weekday timeslot was on August 22, 1997. Back in 1997, a Larry King Live show on a Friday night got 50,000 viewers in the Adult 25-54. However unlike 1997, when the show’s total viewership was 693,000, Morgan’s show last night only had a total viewership of 284,000. That actually wasn’t actually a record low for Morgan’s show, which debuted on January 17, 2011, but it was down from a regular weekday. Over on Fox News, Sean Hannity had 1.7 million viewers in the 9 PM slot, with 334,000 viewers in the Adult 25-54. MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow Show had 839,000 viewers, with 315,000 in the Adult 25-54. In the last 15 years, CNN’s overall weekday primetime numbers have only been worse on Thanksgiving Day 2011. On November 24, 2011, CNN had a primetime average of 262,000 viewers. The Adult 25-54 viewership on that Thursday night was 83,000. That’s what they call a very slow news night.
TVNEWSER:
Last night was a typical, boring Tuesday, with little earth-shattering news to drive TV viewers to cable news. It was also May sweeps, with the season finale of “NCIS: LA,” “America’s Got Talent” on NBC and “Dancing With the Stars” on ABC drawing an astonishing 39 million viewers between them at 9 PM.
Unfortunately for CNN, “Piers Morgan Tonight” was the apparent victim of the busy night, drawing only 39,000 viewers 25-54 at 9 PM. To say those ratings are anomalous would be something of an understatement. That is the lowest 9 PM weekday demo rating for CNN since at least 1997. While the ratings were an outlier, it was a fairly normal edition of “PMT,” with Morgan hosting. Guests included Jane Lynch and “The man with the golden voice” Ted Williams.
“PMT” drew 284,000 total viewers, which was down from a typical weekday, but not a record-breaking low.
“PMT”s lead-in and lead-out, “AC360,” drew around 90,000 demo viewers at both 8 and 10 PM, also down from a typical weekday this year.

Exciting New Show Based on Sanjay Gupta's Book Coming to TNT
From Award-Winning Producer David E. Kelley
TNT has greenlit Monday Mornings, a powerful new series from award-winning producer David E. Kelley (Ally McBeal, Chicago Hope) and practicing neurosurgeon and CNN chief medical correspondent Dr. Sanjay Gupta, M.D., on whose book the series is based. The medical drama stars Ving Rhames (Pulp Fiction), Alfred Molina (Spider-Man 2, TNT's The Company), Jamie Bamber (Battlestar Galactica), Jennifer Finnigan (Better with You), Bill Irwin (CSI: Crime Scene Investigation), Keong Sim (Glee), Sarayu Rao (Lions for Lambs), and Emily Swallow (TNT's Southland).
Monday Mornings (formerly known as Chelsea General) is produced by TNT Originals and David E. Kelley Productions. Kelley and Gupta both serve as executive producers. Kelley penned the pilot episode, which was directed and executive-produced by Bill D'Elia (Boston Legal, The West Wing). TNT has ordered a 10-episode first season of Monday Mornings, which is set to premiere in summer 2013. TNT has teamed up with Turner Broadcasting System International, Inc. to produce this global series. The show, which will air on TNT and Turner networks around the world, will be distributed by TBS International outside of the United States and Canada.
“Monday Mornings is a superb drama brought to life with passion by a gifted ensemble cast and some of the best creative minds working in television today," said Michael Wright, president, head of programming for TNT, TBS and Turner Classic Movies (TCM). "David, Sanjay and their team have given us an outstanding addition to TNT’s stable of high-profile dramas, and we’re very proud to have it on the network."
Set at the fictional Chelsea General Hospital in Portland, Ore., Monday Mornings follows the lives of doctors as they push the limits of their abilities and confront their personal and professional failings. The title refers to the hospital’s weekly morbidity and mortality conference, when doctors gather with their peers for a confidential review of complications and errors in patient care.
Leading the staff at Chelsea General are Dr. Harding Hooten (Molina), the steely-eyed chief of surgery, and Dr. Jorge "El Gato" Villanueva (Rhames), the hospital's trauma chief. Their cadre of medical talent includes hotshot neurosurgeons Dr. Tyler Wilson (Bamber) and Dr. Tina Ridgeway (Finnigan); the abrasive Dr. Buck Tierney (Irwin); the socially challenged Dr. Sung Park (Sim); the petite-but-formidable Dr. Sydney Napur (Rao); and inquisitive resident Dr. Michelle Robidaux (Swallow).

Voters in America – Airs Sunday 8:00PM – 9:00PM and 11:00PM

Piling On
It seems everyone is getting in on the CNN bashing lately. A few more articles you might find of interest.
The WashingtonTimes.com had an article yesterday on what has happened to CNN.
Today......CNN has grown into something quite different. It draws on 45 bureaus, staffed by full-time reporters and an array of competent stringers. And its jaunty international coverage outperforms the expensive suits from New York, especially on big, running stories such as elections and wars.
But CNN’s international prowess gets truncated on the domestic service to make room for fragmentary news coverage, a barrage of commercials, plus warm and fuzzy features like this lead-in to an item recently announced by anchor Wolf Blitzer: “When we come back, a dog that got caught in a cactus!” Wolf’s dancing eyebrows provided the exclamation point.
And there's much more, just follow the link.
Also TVNewser published an article today trying to put a positive spin on Erin Burnett's OutFront. It's hard to spin her numbers but they gave it the good old college try.

More Doom & Gloom for CNN
The heat is on for CNN, criticism coming from every corner of the blogosphere after news of April's epic ratings fail. Maybe a total shakeup, starting at the top, will happen and finally fix what once was the industry standard for cable news? We can only hope.
This first 'what's wrong with CNN' article was written by Lewis Lazare and posted at Reel Chicago. Here's his opening few paragraphs. Please read the entire article as he makes some valid points about Piers, Wolf and Cooper.
The news was hardly shocking. To us anyway. Late yesterday, it was revealed — once again — that top executives at cable news channel CNN are wringing their hands in desperation because ratings continue to plummet.
Based on the April national Nieslen ratings report, CNN has sunk to third place among national news channels — behind perennial frontrunner Fox News and second-place finisher, MSNBC.
In fact, April brought CNN’s worst ratings in a decade.
CNN parent Time Warner, according to the New York Times, is said to be demanding something be done immediately about this slide.
Apparently these same Time Warner folk are oblivious to the fact CNN brass, such as they are, have been fiddling to no avail with the news channel’s prime time lineup for the past couple of years.
If anything, the programming has gotten worse.
We can speak with authority on this matter because — we must admit — we love to observe a train wreck in progress. Almost every weekday night, we watch with utter amazement at how bad the CNN product is.
Viewers SHOULD be abandoning the news channel. No one deserves to have such TV torture inflicted on them.
So what’s wrong with CNN? Full article.
The stunner for today is HuffPo's analysis of CNN's woes. Here's their opening few paragraphs:
CNN is terrible. A God-awful, wall-to-wall, epic mess. And now, they have, in their hands, the clearest sign yet of how bad things have actually gotten. This past April, CNN posted its lowest ratings in 10 years. The New York Times' Brian Stelter recently noted the slim upside, writing, "people tune in to CNN, the same way they hurry to a hospital when they think they are having a heart attack." But what news channel does CNN have to tune in to, to learn the gory details of its own longrunning, sad disaster? Good news: we are that news channel.
CNN, of course, has a proud legacy to fall back on, as it is the entity that kicked off the tradition of 24 hour cable news channels in the first place, and its coverage of the first Gulf War demonstrated that it had minted real newsgathering mettle. CNN founder Ted Turner, in a meta-theatrical appearance on Piers Morgan's show last night, noted that he "wanted CNN to be the New York Times for the news business." Instead, the network has fallen lower in esteem than the New York Mets, who people actually still watch, on the teevee.
Cue the handwringing! How did this happen, and what's to be done next? Well, if you listen to the people who run CNN, you will learn that they think April's ratings low "isn't much of a problem," and what needs to happen now is that management needs "to come up with a plan to restore momentum."
Shut up, people who run CNN! We have been watching CNN for a long time, because there is a television set in our midst that is constantly tuned to it, out of pity. And we've been noticing for a long time that all of the various innovations and "momentum-builders," combined with the very strange decisions made when it comes to coverage, invariably conspire and combine to make CNN steadily worse. CNN Fail
Brian Stelter has a good read in the NYT about CNN's ratings decline, saying they've conceded first place to Fox and now seem to be letting second place in cable news belong to MSNBC. He also wrote that a source told him:
"Jim Walton, who oversees all of the CNN networks, and his boss, Phil Kent, who runs the Turner Broadcasting division of Time Warner, were under “intense pressure” to raise the ratings this spring. "
And Stelter quoted an industry analyst who agreed with what we have said here before:
About half of CNN Worldwide’s revenues come from subscription fees. Cable and satellite operators pay the equivalent of 57 cents per subscriber per month for CNN, according to Derek Baine of SNL Kagan. Mr. Baine said he doubted that low ratings would diminish CNN’s subscription fees, even years from now. “They have a powerful brand name and are part of a big media company with a lot of leverage,” he said.Inside CNN, that brand name is a persistent source of pride for employees who are puzzled by the low ratings and frustrated by what they say is a leadership vacuum.
Here's the link to Brian's article that was posted online today.
The Wall Street Journal also posted an article today about CNN's epic fail. They say:
It is shaping up to be a different story this year. CNN's two main rivals Fox News and MSNBC have gained viewers in the past year, compared with the same period in the 2008 presidential cycle, while CNN has lost them, according to Nielsen Media Research.
Mediaite just posted this audio clip of Rush Limbaugh talking about the problems at CNN. We're not Limbaugh fans in any way, shape or form but he does have some interesting observations.
We've done many, many a post trying to tell CNN what the viewers want, maybe someday they will finally listen?
